The Roost

Graphics for a creative project inspired by the Northern Cardinal. it is a one acre site resembling the territory of the Northern Cardinal and aims to share the lived experience of them with those who visit. This lived experience is shared both through animal human interactions on the border of the site, with a more intimate interaction inside the site. The site is designed to give an intense sense of privacy and intimacy that once entering the visitor feels as though they are entering the Northern Cardinals home. The raised walkway helps to give an intense sense of above and below that feels like entering a sanctuary once walking up and down the rim. The idea for the seats is to resemble a cardinals nest, there are only two seats which resembles how the Northern Cardinal is monogamous having one mate for life. The rim of the site displays elevated bird feeders so visitors to interact with the Norther Cardinal as it feeds. Additionally, the rim offers four “info boxes” where visitors can learn more.
